==Career==
Gibson began his collegiate football career at Hinds Junior College in Jackson, Mississippi. After two successful seasons at Hinds, he was recruited by universities in Mississippi, as well as Nebraska, Illinois, Cincinnati, and Murray State (KY). He decided to play for Coach Mike Gottfried and his Wide Tackle Six defense at the University of Cincinnati. Gibson learned from Defensive Coordinator Ron Zook (Current Head Coach, University of Illinois), and to this day, Antonio tells people that, “the things that Ron Zook taught me in college carried me through the NFL. I never had a position coach better than Ron Zook.”
Gibson played defensive back at the University of Cincinnati during the 1981 and 1982 football seasons. A team captain for the 1982 squad, he received the following honors:
Two time AP Honorable Mention All-American,
Two time All-Metro conference selection, and
Two time UC Bearcat Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year.
Gibson's professional career included three seasons with the USFL's Philadelphia Stars, two of them Championship seasons. When the league folded, he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 1986 and was the starting Safety until retiring in 1993. He was named to Football Digest's All-Rookie team in 1986. His Head Coach during his entire professional career was Jim Mora Sr. His Position Coach was longtime NFL Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers.
Gibson also played briefly with the Dallas Cowboys (1990) and the Birmingham Fire of NFL Europe (1992).
